The Many Uses of Lavender Oil

Published by C. under Beauty, Stress Edit This

Lavender oil is by far the most popular aromatherapy oil used today. What are the many uses of lavender oil? Let’s take a look.

Skin Oil: When used on the skin, lavender oil has been shown to treat acne, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and other skin conditions. Because it has anti-fungal and anti-viral components, this oil may also be used for inflammatory conditions, burns, wounds, rashes and sunburn. It is also said to prevent aging of the skin.

Hair Oil: Instead of using brand name conditioners, use lavender oil as an alternative.

Reduce Stress: When used as bath oil, lavender can reduce stress and anxiety. It has also been known to act as an antidepressant.

Massage: Utilized as a massage oil, lavender has been proven to be effective in reducing muscle pain, arthritis, rheumatism, and swelling. It is also said to strengthen the immune system, lower blood pressure, aid in improving digestion, and relieve nausea.

Mind and Body: Because lavender is a de-stressor, it enables the mind and body to reach a balance within that is evidenced by one’s energy levels. For those who suffer from anxiety and depression, it may act as a catalyst to relieve the symptoms associated with these conditions such as panic attacks and insomnia.

Candles: Lavender can also be used to permeate a room in your home with its lovely scent.

Headaches: Studies have shown that a few drops of lavender oil applied to the temples provides effective relief.

Insect Bites: Lavender oil has been shown to heal insect bites.

It should be noted that pregnant women and women who breastfeed should not use lavender oil, according to experts. Further, some individuals may develop an allergic reaction to the oil as well. Therefore, check the labels on make-up and perfumes to ascertain if there is any lavender contained therein.

As we go about our daily lives and try to juggle many tasks at once, it’s important to take time out to “smell the lavender”. While there are 24 hours in a day, there are far too many moments missed in which we can truly relax. Although lavender oil has many medicinal uses, it can simply be enjoyed for its essential component at least once a day.

Colors That Help Relieve Stress And Tension

Published by C. under Energy, Stress Edit This

More and more homeowners are using different color schemes in their homes that reflect their personalities. Depending on the colors you have in your home, they can play a pivotal role in how you feel. Let’s take a look at some basic colors that help relieve tension.

Pink: This color has a soothing and calming effect. Studies have shown that this nurturing color, especially among girls, is often linked to adults who prefer a less passive hue.

Blue: Studies have shown that blue is a relaxing color and one that promotes calm and inner peace. It also provides tranquility. One of the more popular colors, it is favored among men and is also said to reduce blood pressure.

Green: Also emphasizing tranquility, green is nature’s color. It has a calming effect and studies assert it may relieve stress.

Orange: This is a particularly warm color that can also relieve tension. However, some studies suggest that since it is a component of the color red, it can also spark feelings of hostility.

Brown: The feeling of a comfortable and secure existence is part of the color brown’s description. It makes sense since it is also a color associated with nature.

The psychological effects of color has been the subject of much research. For example, studies have shown that red cars cause more accidents than silver cars. If you’ve seen any bullfights on TV, the red cape used to antagonize the bull is red for a reason. Red energizes, may provoke feelings of anger, and increase hostile attitudes.

It is also interesting to note that centuries ago colors were used as a holistic alternative to traditional medicine. Here are some examples of how colors were used to heal: The color yellow was used as purification of the body; the color indigo was used to aid in skin conditions; the color red was used as a stimulant; and the color orange was utilized to elevate one’s energy.

There is a reason why many homes are switching from traditional white to a variety of soft hues. White, in and of itself, may denote purity; but it is also devoid of healing properties that can relieve tension.

All of the colors above have been shown successful in helping to relieve tension. The color palettes of today are more comprehensive in achieving a certain look, while at the same time offering a soothing alternative to relieve tension.

Balancing Your Diet to Improve Tension and Stress – Part 2

Published by C. under Diet and Nutrition, Stress Edit This

Today we are continuing with tips on balancing your diet to improve tension and stress.

It’s a good idea to avoid salt as it can increase blood pressure which, when confronted with a stressful situation, can increase the tension twofold. Foods such as hot dogs have a high salt content.

Another tip is to stay away from foods that contain fat. Instead, opt for vegetables, fruits, lean meats, fish, chicken, beans, and leafy green vegetables. These are not only healthy for you, but contain antioxidants that are beneficial in reducing free radicals in your body. For example, you can choose turkey burgers which are much leaner than regular beefburgers.

Instead of going out to lunch, you can make lunch at home and bring it to the office. Cut up some carrots, celery, and add some cottage cheese or tuna in water. Or, you can make a nutritious salad with pieces of chicken and lemon vinaigrette. Also, drink plenty of water each day. This serves to keep you sated and hydrated at the same time.

Balancing your diet to improve tension stress is as important as exercise. You will not only feel good, but your energy level will be constant and productivity will increase.
